Safety has never been more important than in today's construction environment. Employee safety, OSHA regulation, and project risk control all play key factors in project success. McHugh Excavating has always placed a high emphasis on Safety. Getting the job done efficiently and safely have always been, and will continue to be, primary goals of a McHugh Excavating project.
McHugh Excavating measures its safety success in two ways, past performance and ongoing commitment. McHugh Excavating has been recognized by the Wisconsin Underground Contractors Association with their award for safety performance three of the last four years. In 2007, and again in 2010, McHugh Excavating had no lost time to a work related injury. The company's Workers Compensation Experience Modification Rating will be .77 for 2011. All trailing edge indicators show the company is on the right track.
Communication and training are the keys to McHugh's ongoing safety program. A successful safety program takes commitment throughout the company. From weekly "tool box talks" to job site safety meetings McHugh Excavating keeps its employees trained on the latest safety procedures and OSHA regulations. McHugh employees have the opportunity to receive off season training at both the Laborers and Operators Union Schools as well as company offered training through the off season "McHugh School" program. This commitment to communication and training will contribute to the future success of McHugh Excavating's Safety Program.
Steve Olson has been on staff as HR/Safety Director for 8 years and is charged with ongoing success of the company's safety program. Through ongoing seminars, training and active involvement in trade organizations, Steve stays up to date on the latest trends and safety issues. Employees are trained that any one of them can halt the job to discuss and evaluate a safety concern. McHugh management believes that at the end of the day the most important thing is that all employees return home safely to their families.
